| Color Safe |  |
Characteristic of products proven to be safe for color-treated hair by not actively removing hair color services. |

| Damp Hair |  |
Hair with noticeable moisture remaining in it. Squeezing damp hair will not leave drops of water on hands. |

In styling, refers to ability of styling products to outline or highlight texture. |

| Density |  |
The number of hairs per square inch. |
 |
| Dry Hair |  |
Hair with no moisture remaining in it. Hair which has internal structure lacking moisture. Indications include loss of manageability, rough feel, or hair with loss of elasticity. |

| Elasticity |  |
Hair's ability to stretch due to natural moisture levels. |
 |
| Fringe |  |
The hair falling over the forehead. Commonly known in the U.S. as "bangs." |

| Gray coverage |  |
In hair color, refers to all hair ending at the same shade and tone after a color service. Generally achieved only with permanent hair color. |

| Gray blending |  |
In hair color, grey hair has been tinted, but will vary in shade and tone from naturally pigmented hair slightly. Generally achieved with semi-permanent hair colors or glosses. |

| Growth Direction |  |
The angle from the scalp at which hair grows. For example, hair on top of the head generally grows forward toward the face. |

| Humidity Resistance |  |
Refers to a styling product's ability to seal hair away from environmental humidity in order to maintain desired style. |

| Layer |  |
A haircutting method used to reduce weight and add movement. |

| Length |  |
The point at which the longest layers fall contributing to the overall design. |

| Lift |  |
Refers to hair styled to "stand away" from the scalp, contributing to volume. |

| One Length |  |
All hair is cut to fall and rest on one blunt line. |

| Repair/Reconstruct |  |
Process of replacing the strengthening and elastic components of hair depleted through chemical processes, abusive styling, or environmental damage. Reparative products contain strengthening and hydrating ingredients as well as shine replacement. |

| Smoothing |  |
Reduces frizz or unruly hair for a sleek finish. |

| Straightening |  |
Refers simply to a styling method of removing curl or wave. |

| Texture |  |
In haircutting, a method of determining the diameter of each hair shaft. Hair is classified as either fine, medium or coarse.
In styling, refers to visual "looseness," dimension and freedom of the overall design.
Also refers to how straight or curly. |

| Texturizing |  |
Various methods of removing hair at varying lengths in order to add looseness, dimension and freedom. These can include razoring, chipping, point cutting and others.
Also refers to chemical services which either add curl/wave, or reduce/remove curl/wave. |

| Volume |  |
Indicates level of fullness within the finished look. Volume can be attained anyplace within the design, e.g. the crown, everywhere, the fringe etc. |

| Wet Hair |  |
Hair nearly dripping with water. Squeezing wet hair will leave drops of water on hands. |
